When I was growing up in Western NY I used to get Mackintosh Toffee (Now known as Mack Toffee). I still remember the commercial about sticking it in the fridge and slapping it on a counter to break it up. Nestle bought the company and changed the formula to make it a pale imitation of what it once was. This toffee is what Mackintosh Toffee used to be, and frankly should be.Extremely chewy and sticky when warm, with a very strong toffee flavor. The bar comes wrapped and in a small plastic tray, making it handy to put what you don't eat back in the fridge for later. While I prefer the thickness of the Mackintosh bars for breaking it apart and chewing, the flavor and consistency of this toffee make it outstanding. There isn't a mass produced toffee bar in North America that compares to the taste and quality of this toffee. If you like real toffee this is your only choice outside of small candy makers. And even then I think this would be a strong competitorThese toffees are too good for their own (and my) good. I had tried some English toffees as a youngster and loved them. So when I remembered their taste recently, I decided to get some and found these on Amazon. I ordered a pack and liked them so much I finished them much faster than I had planned. My wife who does not have a sweet tooth and was put off by their chewiness, really liked them when she finally tried. As I said before I was eating too much of them so after two orders from Amazon I have paused my purchase of this product. If you like English toffees and have better self-control than me, go ahead and order them. You will enjoy them.Tip: The toffees are hard to break when they get a little soft. They are easiest to split when they are hard. Best way to break them is to keep them cool/cold and then whack them against a hard surface. Not elegant but effective.I've ordered this before and it was great. This time when I received the toffee, some of the bars had partially degraded, so it wasn't as good as before.I got hooked on MacIntosh toffee bars, whack your Mac, when in Canada but they were bought out and now the bars are gone. A good friend in Canada sent me some of these as her husband loved them even more than the Macs. I had to say I was hooked instantly and now don't miss not having MacIntosh toffee. I prefer the plain but they are all good. The toffee that I received was clearly past it's prime. Instead of the usual soft and creamy texture; this toffee was dried out. So disappointing! If you haven't tried this toffee before you need to. It is made (you can taste it) with high quality products. It may cost a little more than other brands but it is definately worth the difference in cost!!!!!! I just wish it was easier to get here in the USthis toffee is awesome, put it in the fridge and then take it out and crack it, put pieces in your mouth and warm it up for a while and then you can get a chew in or two. Absolutely delicious , creamy toffeThere's really no conceivable need for me to write another review about any toffee from Walker's Nonesuch (original or treacle). I'm hooked!
